What's new
3/01/11: Hal is in the midst of pruning our apple
trees. This must be done every year, and takes Hal about 40
hours to prune the whole orchard. In addition to the apple
trees, Hal will be pruning the blueberry bushes, and the grapes.
3/15/11: We are in the middle of making maple syrup. This year we put out about 450 taps. In a normal year, 1 tap will produce about 1 quart of syrup of the course of the season.
4/3/11: Hal is grafting Wealthy apple scions onto Bud 9 rootstocks. We discovered last year that the Wealthy apples (plus Cortland) make excellent pies.
4/9/2011: Carol won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes for her pies at the Iron Mountain Pie & Pasty Presevation event in the Home, Sport, & Garden show.
4/20/2011: Our syrup season is complete. We bottled about 70 gallons in various containers, all available in our shop.
4/25/2011: We are now selling apple and cherry trees: Honeycrisp, Zestar, Gingergold, Macintosh, and Snowsweet apples; Jubilem, Danube, Balaton, and Montmorency cherries.
5/28/2011: We are in full bloom. This past week we escaped a serious threat from low temperatures. Although the temperature dipped to 29, it did not do any serious damage.
6/15/2011: We are in the middle of thinning our crop. Pollination was great, so the crop is large and strong.
